BĀS BOOKSHOP

BASE noun

\ BĀS \

a fundamental principle or groundwork; foundation; basis

Pronounced “base”, BāS Bookshop is an independently owned bookstore located on Nu‘uanu Avenue in Chinatown – a district in Honolulu designated for the arts. Opened up at the end of 2020, wife and husband team Aly Ishikuni-Sasaki and Travis Sasaki felt a sense of kuleana to revitalize the arts and its patrons amidst the pandemic.

Multifunctional in purpose, the shop acts as a gallery and event space. Patrons can view quarterly exhibitions from Hawai’i artists, attend artist talk-story sessions or workshops, and even get books signed by their favorite authors/illustrators.

The shop hosts a rotating selection of books emphasizing graphic design, art, fashion, photography, & architecture – with a plethora of other carefully curated picks to satiate curious sensibilities including interactive art books for keiki. BāS also prides itself on carrying handmade goods from local artisans not limited to sustainable upcycled clothing, ceramic ware, and stationary. Shop in store or our online store for your convenience and safety.

True to its namesake, BāS is a foundation for creatives in Honolulu, where we believe reading is fundamental.
